Installing LocalEditor, starting your free trial, managing your licence, moving to a new Mac, and recovering access.

Installing LocalEditor

LocalEditor is distributed directly from this site, not the Mac App Store. It is currently in Beta and available as a direct download.

If you were using GroveNote, this is the same app under a new name — your existing license key still works, and an installed copy updates itself. See the FAQ for why it changed.

  1. Click Try free for macOS to download LocalEditor.dmg.
  2. Open the DMG and drag LocalEditor into your Applications folder.
  3. Launch LocalEditor from Applications.

LocalEditor is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS verifies it automatically on first launch — no security warning to click through.

Starting your free trial

Install and open LocalEditor, then log in with Apple, Google, or GitHub. Your 14-day trial starts automatically — no purchase or licence key is required.

  1. Open LocalEditor and choose a login method.
  2. Complete login in your browser.
  3. Return to LocalEditor and start using the app.

Moving to a new Mac

Your LocalEditor account supports one registered Mac at a time. To move it:

  1. On your current Mac, open Settings → Account and deactivate This Mac.
  2. On the new Mac, install LocalEditor and log in to the same account.

Lost access to your Mac?

Install LocalEditor on your new Mac and log in to the same account. If you cannot replace the previous Mac, email publicnikhilwork@gmail.com using the email address associated with your account.

Working offline

LocalEditor keeps working offline for up to seven days after its last successful account check. When that allowance ends—or when your 14-day trial or paid licence expires—LocalEditor becomes read-only until you reconnect or restore eligible access. Your files remain unchanged on disk and continue to work in other apps.
