Your agents, working in your local files.

Connect Claude, Codex, Cursor, and other agents to LocalEditor. They can read your Projects, open their work for you to review, and pass notes back and forth through Scratchpads. Everything stays on your Mac.

What you can do with it.

Give every agent the same project context

Keep specs, briefs, and decisions in LocalEditor Projects. Any agent you connect can find and read them by project name, so switching from Claude to Codex doesn't mean explaining everything again.

Try asking

  • “Read the design brief in my Website project before you start.”
  • “Check decisions.md and tell me if this change conflicts with anything.”

Let your agent open its work for you

When an agent finishes a plan, spec, or HTML page, it opens the file in LocalEditor so you read a clean, rendered view instead of raw text in the terminal. Edit right there if something needs changing.

Try asking

  • “Open the plan you just wrote in LocalEditor.”
  • “Show me the report in LocalEditor when it's ready.”

Pass work back and forth with a Scratchpad

Your agent writes a checklist, your next tasks, or test cases to a new Scratchpad. You tick items off and add notes, then tell the agent to read it back.

Try asking

  • “Put the test steps for this fix in a Scratchpad.”
  • “Read my notes on the checklist and fix what failed.”

Ask about your notes

Add the folder you already keep notes in as a Project. Ask for summaries, find something you wrote months ago, or pull ideas together across files.

Try asking

  • “Summarize my pricing notes into a Scratchpad.”
  • “Find where I wrote about the onboarding redesign.”

Set up in a few minutes.

  1. Install LocalEditor

Agent access needs LocalEditor 0.9.0 or later in your Applications folder, plus an active trial or licence. LocalEditor updates itself, or you can download the latest version.

  2. Check Agent Access

Open LocalEditor, then Settings → Agent Access. Allow MCP access is on by default with Full access. Switch to Custom Access to choose No access, Read only, or Read & write for each Project and for Scratchpads.

  3. Connect your agent

Install the LocalEditor plugin from the public agent-plugins marketplace, or add LocalEditor MCP by hand. LocalEditor doesn't need to be open while your agent works.

Run these in Terminal to add the marketplace once, then install LocalEditor.

    Add the marketplace
    claude plugin marketplace add nikhildesigns/agent-plugins
    Install LocalEditor
    claude plugin install localeditor@nikhildesigns-agent-plugins

Works in Claude Code on the same Mac. The plugin adds LocalEditor MCP plus a short skill that tells Claude when to use it.

Prefer to add the MCP by hand?
    Add LocalEditor MCP
claude mcp add --scope user localeditor -- /Applications/LocalEditor.app/Contents/Helpers/localeditor-mcp
  4. Start a new session and try asking

Your agent picks up LocalEditor in its next session. Ask in plain words; there are no commands to learn.

    • “Open the plan you just wrote in LocalEditor.”
    • “Put the test steps for this fix in a Scratchpad.”
    • “Read the design brief in my Website project before you start.”
    • “Summarize my pricing notes into a Scratchpad.”

You decide what your agents can touch.

  • Agents connect to a helper inside LocalEditor.app on your Mac. There's no hosted server and no cloud copy of your files.
  • Give agents Full access, or choose No access, Read only, or Read & write for each Project and for Scratchpads.
  • Secret files such as .env are never read or written, whatever access you choose.
  • An agent's edit only saves if the file hasn't changed since it last read it, so your own edits are never overwritten.
  • Turn off Allow MCP access in Settings to disconnect every agent at once.
  • Works with agents running on your Mac, not ChatGPT or Claude on the web.
